Istanbul gets warmer every day and a girl needs a drink every once in a while. Beer just doesn’t cut it for me. I like it but *meh*. So Sangria is my to go thing right now. It’s fruity, it’s fresh and cheap cause you can use whatever fruits are in season at the moment. So this time I made White Wine Sangria.
First off I’m a super wine girl, I have to have my glass at night even if I’m borderline broke at the end of the month. No, I don’t have a problem. And I’ll gladly drink a full bottle of wine during a Skype call. No, I still don’t have a problem. Nonetheless right now it’s too warm for red wine and unfortunately due to some bad college white wine experiences I can’t seem to enjoy white wine alone anymore. I can drink it but it’s not the same thing. So Sangria it is because it tastes awesome. Also a super big plus of sangria is that you can use the cheapest wine you can find (as long as it’s not poisonous, let’s not exaggerate on the cheap).
It helps for practicality that most often you can use in Sangria whatever combination of fruits you want, they will taste different but still delicious. So of course, as I never have anything at home, I passed by the market and there I got a melon, some oranges and peaches. Also got the wine, of course, and I worked with that. Maybe in your market you will find cherries and strawberries, so you can use them too, this is so not a strict recipe, and I’m quite sure there recipes out there for sangria with whatever fruits you may have gotten. Of course it’s not a think to drink everyday, but for a middle of the week night out in the park, it’s perfect and refreshing.
Here’s what I used:
- 2 Oranges
- 3 Peaches
- 1/4 of Melon
- 75 cl bottle of White Wine
- 200 ml of Carbonated Water (without any flavour)
- 200 ml of Orange Juice (I like the ones with pulp but use whatever you want)
- 100 ml of Green Apple Vodka (Optional)
- 1/2 cup of Caster Sugar
Here’s how you do it:
1) Half the Melon and then half it again. Peal it as good as possible and cut it into small cubes. Do the same to the orange and the peaches.
2) Add the wine, the sparkling water, orange juice and vodka and stir. Add the sugar and stir until it’s dissolved. Taste it and add more sugar if need be. I don’t like it super sweet so I don’t but do it to your liking.
3) Leave the Sangria in the Fridge over night or at least for 4 hours so all the flavours mix and Voila! Drink it up!
This is super simple as it just involves some chopping and some mixing, but it’s super delicious! Also, you don’t have to use Vodka, I did it with Whisky before and it worked out fine. Also you don’t need to put any other hard alcohol if you don’t like it, just have yourself some fruity wine what’s the worse that can happen?
