Hey you guys! Today I feel Oh My God Soooooo Bored! Well being like this made me want to write here again (even if the other post was quite recent) and shake things up a bit!
If you read my About section you got to know some facts about me and my clumsy disorganized self. If you didn’t I can always tell you, for the purpose of this post, that I took a photography course, that lead to being still interested in photography even if I’m not pursuing it in a professional way anymore. So this is related to this because about 2 years ago I was in the state of mind I am today and I decided to make a stop-motion video (partly moved by the fact that my dSLR doesn’t shoot video, otherwise it would have been a video) while baking a cake.
Here is the madness video:
This was hilarious to make, since I had just one hand to mix the cake, another to hold the camera which resulted in me pressing the shoot button with my shin. Well I really was bored and I had to do something about. At the end I was really pleased with the result of my photo-cooking madness.
The cake itself it’s called Water Cake and it was a recipe that I stole from one of my grandmother’s cooking books since it was her favorite cake and I make a few alterations of my own. The name water cake comes from the fact that in the original recipe you add water to the dough and later orange zest, but you see there I used orange juice because it gives it more flavor and lemon zest.
Here is what you need to get:
- 5 eggs
- 320g of sugar
- 320g of flour
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- 250ml of natural orange juice (1 cup, you need around 3 good oranges, get 4 if you’re buying just in case)
- 1 lemon (for the zest)
How to do it , well you can see it in the video, but here are some important details that you might miss:
- You need to add a little flour and then a little juice, and repeat until both end.
- Be gentle when incorporating the beaten egg whites. The more gentle you are, the more air you will leave inside the cake and make it more fluffy after cooking. Use a wooden spoon for this, the electric beater will just be too much and ruin all the function of the egg whites.
- When the cake dough is ready put it in a pre-heated oven at 200 Celsius for 40 min to 50 minutes. Keep checking on it because it really depends on the oven and this cake is a sensible cake.
I enjoyed this like crazy! By the way, this cake is also super good with chocolate frosting on top, just sayin’.
So enjoy! And let me know if you ever had this kind of craziness attacks before. I mean, come on! Who shoots a stop motion with their shin? I definitely have a problem 🙂
